RAIL: Amtrak, Rocky Mountaineer Rail Tours, Via Rail Canada and Bus Service
- Airport Shuttle Express operates “charter vans” between any of Montana’s Amtrak Station and Calgary or Banff.
- The closest Amtrak station to Calgary is East Glacier (summer) or Browning (winter) while Whitefish is the closest station to Banff.
- The Amtrak train is the “Empire Builder” which heads East to Chicago in the morning and West to either Portland or Seattle in the evening.
- In Seattle there is a daily AMTRAK rail service or a seasonal Rocky Mountaineer Rail Tours train North to Vancouver, BC.
- Make sure Amtrak’s Montana Station is open and the train stops for the dates required. i.e. East Glacier Station closes and Browning opens
- There is also some “flag” stops. i.e. Essex, MT. Please check with Amtrak for details.
- At Calgary, Banff or Jasper you have the Rocky Mountaineer Rail Tours heading west to Vancouver British Columbia Click Here to view the trip:

Alberta – Calgary, Lethbridge, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper. We can pick you up or drop you at any car rental location or hotel in Alberta. If touring the Canadian Rockies consider renting a car at an “off-airport” location even if you are returning the car to the Calgary Airport. This will save you the Calgary Airport Authority “Concession Recovery Fee” of 15.61% and the $6.00 per day Airport Improvement Fee/Customer Facilities Charge (max 7 days). Our service is available from anywhere in Calgary. Yes, for car rentals, you may still have to pay the “Energy Recovery Fee”, the “Air-Condition Excise Tax”, the “Vehicle License Fee” and the 5% Goods and Service Tax (GST) before you are introduced to the car rental’s different insurance plans! Calgary –In Calgary the non airport pickup could be cheaper. i.e. One of the major companies: 18 Aug. 2019, one week full size car, unlimited mileage. Airport CAD559.53 at counter; CAD$494.99 pre booked. Non airport CAD412.77 at counter; CAD$373.13 pre booked. Plus all the taxes, insurance etc which will be added! These rates are the basic ones, before any discounts! The Canadian Dollar is about 25 – 30% LESS than the US Dollar. (checked 06 June 2019).
